The Black Plague was a cataclysmic event which brought about the complete destruction of the ancient world, and thus the end of the First Era. The Plague itself was actually a massive outbreak of Black Dragons which were summoned by Fool Coco, who wielded the Dragon Stone Ring.
The Black Plague begins.
The dragons laid waste to Oberin City and all other traces of civilization, before turning on Fool Coco himself. The few survivors of the plague took residence deep underground in the modern-day Lerilin Volcano, where they would remain for countless ages, until finally being led out by Elara, who discovered the Curio and used it to banish the dragons.
